# The node is free. The management layer and the hub are commercial.

> The Node is free and open-source. The hub is commercial, as a subscription you operate or fully managed by us.

Two things vary, and they vary independently. **Scale** is how much a deployment covers: a node is one agency, a hub federates across many. **Edition** is which code is in the image: Community is the analyst substrate, Enterprise adds the management and operations layer. The tiers below are the crossings you can buy. There is no community hub, because federation is the whole of what a hub adds.
